Selbstüberwindung
"Staying Grounded in Times of Change"
Dr. Paul Rozin, Penn professor of psychology and expert on human and animal behavior, provides insights and strategies on how to cope better in an unstable environment.
Paul Rozin (born 1936) is a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania who teaches two Benjamin Franklin Scholars honors courses, in addition to graduate level seminars. He is also a faculty member in the Master of Applied Positive Psychology program started by Martin Seligman. He is the world's leading expert on disgust,[citation needed] and his current work focuses on the psychological, cultural, and biological determinants of human food choice.
"As I say, it's not just about chilli pepper - it's about black coffee and ginger root and horseradish," Rozin told NPR last week. "And hot-temperature food and cold food: Most people don't like really cool food like ice water; that's a Western thing to drink beverages that are cold. Little kids don't like them."
Part of it is exposure, part is the pleasure/pain principle and part of it is peer pressure, Rozin reasons.
"It's clear that whatever enjoyment might be derived from savouring chilli flavours, true satisfaction comes only in the aftermath: the relief at having endured, and survived."
Überwindung - es geschafft zu haben - löst positive Gefühle aus. Erlebte Selbstwirksamkeit beeinflusst unseren Geschmack.
Den Geschmack beeinflußt auch das Anschlußmotiv. Wir schmeckt das was respektierte Vorbilder mögen.
"In the end, the most powerful step may be the one Gates is already taking: lending the new technology celebrity heft. Insofar as we respect Gates and see him as a role model, watching him drink recycled water may increase our own willingness to try it."
